1. What is Glassine paper?

Glassine (also known as cellophane, insulated paper, base paper, liner paper, silicone-coated paper, oil paper, wax paper) is a thin, flat, and smooth paper that is resistant to water, air, and grease.
This paper is available in opaque white or dyed in various colors. There are two types of cellophane: clear cellophane and matte cellophane.

2. How is Glassine paper produced?

Cellophane is not made from glass or plastic but from a type of pure fiber that contains cellulose, a fundamental substance of cells.
Initially, cellulose is treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and then further treated with sulfuric carbon (Ca2SO4). After undergoing a series of chemical and physical changes, the resulting substance is dissolved in a sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution, forming a rubber-like solution known as sticky mucus.
This sticky solution is poured into a rare acid through a narrow gap, taking advantage of the reaction with the rare acid to remove the NaOH in the sticky liquid and create a new cellulose substance. At this point, the properties of cellulose have completely transformed, resulting in a transparent film called cellophane.
